Supporting Women Athletes
Since 1992, The YWCA of Minneapolis has had a wonderful tradition of providing a safe, welcoming and competitive venue for women's basketball participation. Since 2004 the leagues have grown in size from 88 teams per year to over 150. We are the largest women's basketball league in the Midwest.
Seasons and League Divisions
We have four seasons per calendar year: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.
There are four league divisions: A, B, Silver Fox (women 40+) and College (summer only). To find the league that's best for you, read the descriptions below.
A League
This league is for the elite player(s). Most players who participate in this league have played competitively in college at the Division I, II, III or NJCAA level. Typically we have 10-15 teams per season participate.
B League
This league is for the recreational player(s). Most players who participate in this league have played competitively in high school, and some players have played college basketball. Typically we have 18-20 teams per season participate.
Silver Fox League
This league is specifically designed for the player 40 years of age or older. Typically we have 4-8 teams per season participate. We welcome beginners. Many of our participants missed out on Title IX and never had the opportunity to participate in athletics. We also have participants who are experienced players.
Four times per calendar year we host free skills clinics, approximately one week before the next season begins. This is a great chance for newcomers to meet the league participants and get placed on a team. We also host a fall skills clinic directed by Janet Karvonen. Many of our program participants have said that Silver Fox basketball has transformed their lives.

College League - Summer Only
This league is specifically designed for actual college/university teams. Typically we have 20-26 teams participate.
