South Minneapolis neighborhood stands up to racism
October 3, 2009

In keeping with our mission to empower women and girls and work to eliminate racism, the YWCA of Minneapolis hosted a workshop called "More Than Skin Deep: Uprooting White Privilege and White Supremacy One Cell at a Time" on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Midtown YWCA. Four protestors showed up to oppose the workshop and were met by hundreds of community members who firmly stated the message that racism is not something we will allow in our community.

Though not organized by the YWCA of Minneapolis, the workshop falls in line with the critical work that the organization does and our mission to empower women and girls and eliminate racism. The YWCA of Minneapolis actively:

  • Works to eliminate racism wherever it exists by increasing racial understanding
  • Fosters open dialogue and creates a safe space for people of all backgrounds to work toward the elimination of racism in our community
